Life in Terres Basses is about space and privacy: large estates, quiet roads and some of the island's finest beaches a few minutes from home. Baie Longue is a long, calm stretch for sunset walks, and sea turtles nest along it. With no shops inside the gates, residents shop in Cupecoy or Marigot, both close by, and reach the airport through the Cupecoy side.

Terres Basses is a gated residential enclave on the French side's western peninsula, made up of about 300 private estates on lots of at least one hectare. It is ringed by three public beaches, Baie Longue, Baie Rouge and Baie aux Prunes, and has no shops: the only commercial property allowed is Belmond La Samanna. Access is through two guarded gates, one from Cupecoy and one from Sandy Ground.
