New Nonstop Flights to Sint Maarten: What They Mean for Property Owners

In the past year, Sint Maarten gained more nonstop flights than it has in a long time. Southwest arrived from Orlando and Baltimore, JetBlue went daily from Fort Lauderdale, American and United added Chicago, and a new regional link to St. Thomas starts in October. For property owners, every new route is a new city of potential guests, and eventually buyers.

Here is what changed, and what we would do about it if we owned a rental on the island.

The new routes at a glance

• JetBlue, Fort Lauderdale. Nonstop service began in December 2025. From July 2026 the airline moved it from four flights a week to daily.

• Southwest, Orlando. Daily service since April 7, 2026, the airline's first new international destination since 2021. Orlando also works as a one-stop connection for travellers from dozens of Southwest cities.

• Southwest, Baltimore. Weekend service since April 2026, built around Saturday-to-Saturday week-long stays.

• American and United, Chicago. Both announced Chicago service for the 2025–26 season, opening the Midwest with a single flight.

• Contour Airlines, St. Thomas. Twice-weekly service on Mondays and Fridays from October 5, 2026, on 30-seat regional jets. Small, but useful for island-hopping visitors and the US Virgin Islands market.

Surinam Airways is also studying flights linking Paramaribo and Georgetown with Princess Juliana International Airport. Nothing is scheduled yet, and the service still needs a business case and traffic rights, so we would not count on it.

Why this shows up in the arrival numbers

The island recorded 566,722 air arrivals in the first half of 2026, according to the Department of Statistics, with North America the largest source by far. More seats from more cities is a large part of that story. We looked at the figures in detail in our analysis of the 2026 tourism numbers.

What it means if you own a rental

New cities, new guests. Orlando, Baltimore and Chicago were connection markets a year ago. Travellers who had to change planes in Miami or Charlotte now arrive in time for lunch. Mention direct flights from those cities in your listing. It is a simple line that answers a real question.

Match your check-in days to the flights. When a route runs on set days, guests arrive on those days. Baltimore flights run on weekends and the St. Thomas service on Mondays and Fridays. Rigid Saturday-only check-ins make less sense than they used to. Look at the flight schedule before you set minimum stays.

The shoulder season gets stronger. Southwest started in April, after the peak. Daily JetBlue service began in July. Routes that operate outside the winter peak help fill the months where a good year becomes a great one.

Location near the airport matters more. Simpson Bay, Maho, Cupecoy and Cole Bay are minutes from the terminal. For a long weekend on a direct flight, a short transfer is a selling point.

What it means if you are buying

Airlift is one of the things we look at before recommending a rental purchase. It does not replace the basics: can the unit be rented short-term under the building's rules, what has it actually earned, and what does it cost to hold. But more direct routes widen the pool of guests, and a wider pool of guests supports occupancy across the year. Browse properties for sale with that in mind.

Does Southwest fly to St. Maarten? Yes. Southwest has flown daily from Orlando since April 2026 and on weekends from Baltimore.

Do new flights raise rental income? Not automatically. They bring more potential guests. Owners who price well and match their calendar to the new schedules are the ones who benefit.
